August 2-4, 2019
Part spa retreat, part self-care workshop, through this class we hope to find a balance between taking care of ourselves and caring for each other. We’ll be checking in with and challenging our beliefs and attitudes toward self-care, relaxation and receptivity. We will include morning and evening saunas, gathering healing herbs, homemade body care products, creating personal bathing rituals for one another, sunbathing, cold-plunging, hot-tubbing, and going on a special watery fieldtrip, just to name a few. There will be both personal and group baths. We invite all participants to bring their own stories and experiences with bathing and we welcome all levels of experience and comfort. We’ll be holding space for conversations around boundaries and consent, and how we see and relate to our bodies. Nudity will be entirely optional throughout the class, but please expect that some participants will be nude. We invite all female-identifying and/or female-bodied folks. If you don’t identify those ways and would like to come, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us – We would love to welcome you. We may have limited language but we have very open hearts!
*One full-tuition scholarship is available for this class. If you are interested in a scholarship or work-study position, please see our scholarship & work-study page and email this class’s facilitator here .
The Art of Bathing is lead by a group of Cabbage School friends and neighbors. We are a collection of international bath house tourists and we hold and a holy awe of water. Through our passions and research, we offer a good bit of knowledge of bath house and sauna culture, techniques and tools for herbal self care, self massage and body scrubbing, and sun bath rituals. We are five women, queer and otherwise, named Emma, Sari, Render, Zanny, and Natalie.
